Without Mustaine Metallica would never have turned out as good as they did. Mustaine brought a level of musicianship that no one in the band knew of at the time. He helped boost them to where they needed to be before he got kicked out, then they took his lessons and turned them into Kill Em All.
I know John. I saw the documentaries and how Hetfield and Lars say how good Mustaine was as a guitarist and how he kind of influenced Metallica’s sound. If he wasn’t acting like a douche and changed his behaviour, maybe he could have kept his job.
